Role Of FNB And Property Investors In Saving Johannesburg CBD

With the property segment of South Africa booming like never before, increasing attention has been drawn to the city centre of Johannesburg (including areas such as Berea, Yeoville, Braamfontein, and Hillbrow).

Investors are looking at varied alternatives that work towards revitalising buildings in Johannesburg's Inner City. Options include maintaining as well as renovating buildings such as office spaces and transposing them into residential units. Despite investor input, however, support is definitely required too from the government to help the CBD environment flourish.

Another hero to Johannesburg's CBD is First National Bank. Recently, the institution invested R28m into the Inner City of Johannesburg to develop a parking arcade at the confluence of Pritchard Street and Sauer Street. This has added tremendous value to the area. As one of the evolving Blue Chip companies, FNB has chosen to stay on in the CBD, even when others have chosen to move on to the northern suburbs.
